Overview and History

The Nonprofit Center traces its roots back to a 1998 Jacksonville Community Council, Inc. (JCCI) study of the community’s nonprofit sector, which called for the creation of “an organization to support and advocate for a strengthened nonprofit sector in Northeast Florida.” Over a four-year period, community leaders and representatives of the nonprofit sector convened to build support for the establishment of the Nonprofit Center. In 2002, the Nonprofit Center of Northeast Florida opened its doors.

The Nonprofit Center serves organizations based in Duval, Clay, St. Johns, Nassau and Baker counties. It currently has 220-plus members who range in staff and budget size from all volunteer organizations, to those with hundreds of employees and multi-million dollar budgets. But large or small, the Nonprofit Center’s mission is to ensure that the nonprofits that touch every aspect of our lives continue to thrive.

The following founding funders are credited with securing the establishment and vision for the Nonprofit Center:

  • Blue Foundation
  • Lucy Gooding Foundation
